NCBE responsibilities

Below is a general overview of the NCBE responsibilities:


  • Development of medical and scientific research ethics from and Islamic, security and national standpoint
  • Development and review of regulations as needed in light of global scientific developments
  • Development of expert subcommittees to conduct detailed study of multidisciplinary fields, and develop ethics laws in legal and scientific terms
  • Supervision of, and cooperation, with medical and bioethics committees operating in research centers/sectors
  • Supervising and monitoring of the central information system of national genetic banks as well as the related documentation and access controls thereof
  • Ethical preparation of research laboratories to conduct bio/medical research appropriately
  • Development of guidelines and rules guiding animal testing
  • Periodic review of lab safety from an ethical point of view
  • Coordination among the Kingdom, Arab and international countries and organizations
